Sajid Khan, the director of Bollywood suspense thriller “Lootera”, has created a new controversy by making comments on the upcoming film about the female lead actresses playing crime fighters.Bollywood director Sajid Khan, said that women had to take on roles of crime fighters and save the world's men from baddies."We have to save ourselves and also keep saving our men," he told reporters at a press conference ahead of Lootera's release. The right-wing organisation Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) reacted sharply to Mr Khan's remarks. The VHP said that such comments were "deeply hurtful and demeaning to women" and asked the film fraternity to apologise.Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, meanwhile, did not comment on Mr. Khan's remarks though he condemned the recent incidents of vandalism against mosques in Mumbai and elsewhere in the country. Omar Abdullah had earlier claimed that his religion was disturbing for some people. In order to clear his name from all allegations of funding terrorism in India, Sri Lankan cricket team's captain Mohammad Ashraful had dropped a defamation case against a tabloid newspaper. Ashraf had filed a defamation case against 'The Sunday Leader' and its editor Frederica Jansz when they published a report in 2009 claiming he had been sending money to the Hurriyat leaders. Ashraful denied the story and said the newspaper was trying to ruin his career. But he withdrew his charges in 2011, when Jansz said she was willing to apologise and make a donation to charity."I apologise for making accusations that were unfounded," The Sunday Leader quoted Jansz as saying. "It was my mistake to publish the story without verifying it. I am willing to make a donation to charity."Many celebrities have been accused of using their fame to sell online medicines and other items such as hair oils, cosmetics, and watches. The Government of India has also taken steps against such celebrities by asking them to prove that they don't need the income from such sales. Mohanlal, one of the most popular Malayalam actors in southern India, was asked by the government to provide information about his income and other details in order to avoid tax implications under Value Added Tax (VAT) laws. The government has also asked popular actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai and others to provide information about the sale of their products. The Government's move followed a complaint by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) that some celebrities were using their fame to sell products online to avoid taxes.Tim Story is an American film director, producer and writer.
